Android defeats iPhone in US

Android has overtaken the iPhone in America’s mobile wars according to a report issued by comScore.

Currently the Google designed OS has a 26.0 market share compared to that of the iPhone’s 25.0. Blackberry manufacturer RIM retains its market lead in the US.

Android looks set to have an even stronger year in 2011 with the announcement of powerful dual-core handsets.

Worldwide sales of Android have remained ahead of the iPhone for several months according to research published earlier this year by Gartner. The iPhone however had remained second to Blackberry in the US up until now.

This shift in market share could represent a major change for the worldwide smartphone landscape as increasing numbers of manufacturers invest in the now ultra-successful Android.
