Sony Ericsson’s Android 2.3.3 upgrade for their Xperia Play and Xperia Arc has arrived in the UK, and Vodafone customers look to be the first to get it.
On Vodafone’s e-forum, we’re told the upgrade should improve call-quality, email setup and dealing with exchange accounts. The main purpose of the 2.3.3 upgrade (still called Gingerbread) is several security fixes.
This update will also add FaceBook in Xperia functionality, which brings a raft of social network connections to your phone. With the update, users will be able to like music and videos with an on-screen like button embedded into certain apps. It’ll also embed Facebook feeds into your contacts.
Sony Ericsson told Recombu last week that both the Xpera Arc and Xperia Play would be getting the upgrade this week, an upgrade that’s set to land on all new Xperia phones this year.
Bizarrely, the upgrade won’t be done over-the-air (OTA), you’ll have to go to the effort of plugging in your phone to your PC and upgrading through the Sony Ericsson update service application.
We don’t have a Vodafone Xperia Arc or Play in the office to test out the new upgrade. Let us know if you manage to move up to the new version.
