Apple has finally lifted its restriction of voice-over-IP (VoIP) calls over 3G data networks using the iPhone. Before the big iPad announcement earlier this week, VoIP calls could be made over Wi-Fi using apps like Skype but this wasn’t much good when you were out and about. Now you can call, video call and instant message for free using your 3G connection. Great news for iPhone owners because, let’s face it, they could do with saving a few bob on their phone bills.
Popular messaging apps Fring and iCall have already released updates to their apps reflecting the change, but we’re still waiting to hear when Skype will join the 3G club. “Fringsters” can check out the video below for a walk-through from a very bouncy man.
