App Friday: Official UEFA EURO 2012 with Orange

Euro 2012 might not be kicking off until June, but if you want to get your footie fix early, the official app has just been launched. With Official UEFA Euro 2012 with Orange you can keep up to date with news, videos and up to the minute scores on all the major phone platforms, for free.

Official UEFA Euro 2012 with Orange is being released in two versions. Part one is out now and includes a host of background information, including teams, news, photos and travel, if you’re planning on visiting host countries Poland or the Ukraine.

In May an update will be available, adding geolocation and Augmented Reality information, including POI’s and friend finder – features this will be of most use for those lucky enough attending the matches.

The app works across eight mobile platforms, including iOS (which we used), but also Android, Android Tablet, BADA, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.

We’ve tried the iPhone version and it’s nicely designed; tap the main menu to access a list of matches, teams, news and photos, video, social networking (for sharing content via Facebook) and travel information.

Choose your favourite team (or teams) and when they are playing you can get alerts sent to your phone, including goals, timings and goals, as well as to any news.

The Video centre is one of the most interesting features. At the moment (of course) there aren’t any videos for EURO 2012, but there are highlights videos for UEFA Champions League and Europa League matches, which you have to pay for. A highlights package with commentary costs £6.99, which seems a bit steep – although most football fans will probably have seen the matches anyway.

There are free videos, with some interviews and news – which is a bit sparse – at the moment you’d get more information from a football website.

If you’re a football fan then this app is worth a download – when EURO 2012 launches it will be invaluable.
