Apple doles out Christmas gifts with 12 Days gift app

iOS user? Want free stuff? Check out 12 days of gifts from Apple

Apple has unveiled this year’s advent calendar app giving anyone with an iTunes account 12 days of freebies to load up on via their iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC or iPod touch. The free 12 Days Of Gifts app gives iOS users a gift per day. Gifts ranging from songs and films to games and books are included.

Apple is giving away 12 days of freebies to iOS users.

Each item can only be downloaded for free on a single day and only via the iOS app. The app includes a countdown telling you how many days you have to wait until you can download your first gift, and will also send you a daily reminder that you have a free gift waiting for you to download.

Apple has given away apps and iTunes and App Store content via this mechanism for the past five years, previously calling the app The 12 Days of Christmas. As with an advent calendar, it’s a mystery what gift the door for each day will reveal. However, unlike traditional advent calendars, the 12 Days of Christmas start on Boxing Day rather than ending on Christmas Day. This means that if you’re lucky enough to find an iPad or iPhone under the tree this Christmas, you’ve got a head start in filling it with fun ways to entertain yourself.

For the first time the 12 Days Of Gifts app will be available to US users as well as European Apple device owners. The daily gift on offer varies by country, but UK gifts have included Coldplay concert footage from Apple’s iTunes Festival, board games such as Trivial Pursuit, Lady Gaga and Foo Fighters tracks and an episode of TV show Sherlock.
