Apple: new iPad pre-orders sell out in USA, UK still in stock, early April ETA

Demand for the new iPad in the US has been so great that pre-orders for the new device according to Apple.

USA Today quotes a press release from Cupertino saying: “Customer response to the new iPad has been off the charts and the quantity available for pre-order has been purchased.”

“Customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date.”

The article mentions that the launch date for the new iPad has been pushed back to the 19th of March on Apple’s US site; we had a look at both the US and the UK site where nothing appears to have changed; those 16th of March dates are still standing on both sides of the Atlantic.

We called up Apple’s UK store to ask about stock; we were told that that pre-order stock of all variations – Wi-Fi only and 4G and Wi-Fi – in both colours are still available, though we were told to expect an early April delivery date.

We couldn’t get anything more specific than that unfortunately. This Friday is still down as the big launch date, so those patient enough to brave the queues ought to be able to walk away with a new iPad to play with over the weekend.

Unless you’ve been promised an earlier delivery date for your new iPad, you’re looking at a couple of weeks wait to get yours otherwise. If you simply can’t wait that long then the choice is clear; pull a sickie on Friday and get down to your nearest Apple store.
