Archos: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for Archos G9 range in two weeks

Archos has announced that upgrades to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to its G9 range of Android tablets will be coming in two weeks’ time.

Apologising for the delay on its Archos Worldwide Facebook page, Archos says

“Regarding the upgrade to ICS: We apologize for the delay, but it is important to us to deliver a smooth transition over to Android 4.0 and to make sure that your experience is a positive one. We fully anticipate deploying the upgrade within the next two weeks. Thank you for your continued support of ARCHOS.”

We were given a little teaser of Archos’ Ice Cream plans before Christmas 2011; a video of an Archos G9 101 running Android 4.0.1 surfaced on YouTube and it looked revelatory. Much of the rough edges which we experienced appeared to have been scrubbed with the upgrade; Ice Cream Sandwich looked to bring with it a slicker, more stable general performance as well as the other various benefits of the new OS version.

We’ll get back to you with more information on when the updates will be hitting Archos devices in the UK as and when we hear about it.
