Archos G9 tablets getting Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich now

Good news for owners of Archos G9 tablets; we hear that an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich is headed out over the air right now.

Android 4.0 – 4.0.3 to be exact – is winging its way to the Archos G9 rnage of tablets. This includes the Archos 80 G9 80 and the Archos 101 G9, which will be ready for Ice Cream upgradeage when the ‘A’ notification icon appears in the bottom right corner.

No word on the exact size of the upgrade but we’d advise on clearing some space if you’re up to the hilt.

We’ve already seen early evidence of the smoothness and speed which Android 4.0 brings to the Archos G9 range in this video.

Archos’ G9 range of tablets is very cheap and cheerful – the Archos 80 G9 is going for £190 and the Archos 101 G9 retails at £220. When we reviewed the Archos 101 G9 we loved the no frills approach but found that the overall performance was pretty slow. Ice Cream Sandwich looks to sort this out.

As well as benefiting from this timely Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, the Archos G9 tablets benefit from extensive video codec support, custom file managers and the very nifty Archos Remote Control app, which turns virtually any Android phone into a remote control for the Archos tab (so long as they’re both connected to the same Wi-Fi access point). Useful for when you’re streaming media and your Archos tab is hooked up to an HDTV.
