Asus has confirmed it’s second generation Android tablet, the EeePad Transformer Prime, which will be the first device running Nvidia’s new Tegra 3 quad core chipset and looks set to be one of the most powerful tablets on the market.
The Tegra 3 tablet includes five cores and promises 5x the power and 3x the graphics performance of the Tegra 2 chip, which of course featured in the original Asus EeePad Transformer, which has been one of the tablet success stories of the last 12 months and the docking keyboard is retained here.
Other features include stereoscopic 3D support – for converting games to 3D and a 12-hour battery life for video playback and the ability to pair games controllers for playing back Tegra games on a television.
In appearance it looks similar to the original Transformer, if slightly slimmer at 8.3mmwith Amethyst Gray and Champagne Gold versions available. Unlike recent Ice Cream Sandwich rumours, it actually runs Honeycomb. The 10.1-inch IPS screen is made from Gorilla Glass and again includes IPS technology.
It includes dual cameras of 8-megapixels and 1.2-megapixels, including full HD movie capture. Choose from 32GB and 64GB versions, which can be expanded via an SD slot.
The tablets existence is no big surprise, recently it cropped up in benchmarks where it trounced the competition earning a benchmark of 12,872. Asus also released a teaser video, which although short showed the tablet’s form factor.
At the moment the Asus EeePad Transformer Prime launch date is December, there’s no news yet when it will get the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update, but we’ll let you know as soon as possible.
