Following the news of the Asus PadFone Infinity, Asus announced the Fonepad an 7-inch Android tablet with call capabilities priced at £179.
Running Android Jelly Bean, the Fonepad is just 10.4mm deep and made from metal. What differentiates it from other tablets is the inclusion of a noise-cancelling microphone for voice calls, we’re not sure we’d like to make calls using a 7-inch tablet, but it will certainly appeal to those who want a combined phone/tablet combo.
The screen has a HD resolution of 1280×800 HD screen and includes IPS technology. Inside there’s a Intel Atom Z2420 processor.
There’s a front-facing 1.2-megapixel camera and primary 3-megapixel camera for with autofocus and HD 720p capabilities. 3G is onboard, along with support of HSPA+, the UK version has 16GB internal storage and a microSD slot, supporting cards up to 32GB.
The Fonepad launches at the end of Q2 2012, prices start at £179 – which is unbelievably cheap – and should appeal to a wide range of users.
