Asus Padfone appears on pre-order, Asus says it’s not legit

A pre-order page for the Asus Padfone has emerged over on Flagship Fones, a UK-based site that’s got it priced up at £699.98 including VAT.

As amazing as the Asus Padfone is, £700 odd seemed a bit steep to us. We got in contact with Asus who gave us the following statement:

“Flagship Fones is not an official ASUS reseller and has had no communication with us about the ASUS PadFone.

ASUS is yet to announce pricing and availability of the ground-breaking and shape-shifting PadFone – anything to the contrary is merely rumours and speculation. We will be announcing details with our carrier partners in due course, so keep an eye out for updates on the official ASUS website and social media pages for more information as and when it is available.”

So there you have it – it’s not £700 and Flagship Fones (for now) isn’t an official retailer. If like us, you can’t wait to get hold of a Padfone, we’d advise you to hold on to your notes until the official announcement.

The Asus Padfone for us was one of the standout devices of Mobile World Congress 2012. Both a phone and a tablet that could slot into a keyboard dock it seems like the perfect, all-in-one device. And that’s before you consider the capacitive stylus that’s also a Bluetooth headset…
