Asus Transformer Pad Infinity Review: First Look

Asus has been busy behind the scenes readying the next wave of devices for the limelight and just the other day the company’s Chairman – Jonney Shih unveiled a number of new computing solutions for both home and mobile use. For mobile users, the highlight was undoubtedly the introduction of a new Asus Transformer Pad Infinity, which serves as a significant update on the previous top-tier Transformer.

The last Infinity was a veritable powerhouse in its own right, with a 10.1-inch Full HD IPS display and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out-the-box. Whilst the new Infinity is also a quad-core, HD, Jelly Bean laptop/tablet, each key piece of hardware has been supercharged this time around.

The highlight of the hardware has to be the new display which adopts a 2560×1600 resolution at the same size as its predecessor, giving it a Retina display-savvy pixel density. It also makes it one of a select number of Android tabs at this resolution, along with the likes of the Google Nexus 10.

Whilst the display is impressive, we’re also looking forward to stress testing the slate’s innards as it’s also one of the first devices to tote Nvidia’s long anticipated Tegra 4 processor, which is twinned to 2GB of RAM, hopefully making sure everything feels snappy.

Naturally, being a member of Transformer family, this 10-inch tab docks into a folding hardware keyboard which bolsters battery life and in addition, there’s a wealth of connectivity such as an HDMI-out, 32GB of on board storage which is expandable via microSD card and front and rear cameras at 5 and 1.2-megapixels respectively. It’s also Worthing noting that thanks to that beefy Tegra 4 chip, this is one of the first tablets we’ve come across with the ability to output in 4K.

According to The Verge, we can expect to see the new Asus Transformer Pad Infinity arrive sometime in summer with prices ranging from $300 (just under £200) to $400 (around £260) approximately.
