BBC launches iPhone apps for news and sport

BBC News and BBC Sport apps are coming to the iPhone this April. The apps will draw content from the BBC’s news and sports websites presented in a streamlined interface. Rory Cellan-Jones tweeted the above pic earlier today. It shows what looks like the BBC News apps with stories arranged in a grid.

iPhone owners will have the opportunity to have their say on stories by adding comments and uploading pictures. Both apps will provide a mixture of text articles, videos and audio clips. The BBC Sport app will initially focus on football and feature live content from BBC 5 Live radio, including match commentary and score updates.

The BBC News and Sport apps are set to appear on Android and Blackberry phones later in the year. Nothing has been announced regarding Symbian or Windows Mobile just yet but the BBC says that it wants to “work with other providers to enable these applications on their mobile devices”.
