Beatrix Potter talkie books come to iPad

Before there was Harry Potter, there was Beatrix Potter. Okay, less spells, villains and made-up-flying-sports, but more animals and beautiful hand-drawn illustrations. Your mum loved them, even if you don’t.

Well, get your mum an iPad quick: Beatrix Potter books have come to Apple’s tablet as ‘Talkie books’. Which means e-books starring Jeremy Fisher, Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin and the rest, complete with the original artwork, but also with voiceover narration.

Right now, only two are available in the UK App Store, but in the US more have been released, including a Beatrix Potter Collection featuring 12 e-books in one. “Your children can listen to the story warmly narrated whilst enjoying the illustrations – or if they prefer – scroll across the page and read along with the text,” says the App Store blurb.

My children seem to be keener on messing up my finely-tuned Plants vs. Zombies defences, in truth. But if they can be distracted by some cute literary animal tales, I’m all for it.
