At Apple’s huge September 9th launch, we saw some of the best new apps coming to the Apple Watch wearable, a new range of designs and bands, as well as finally hearing a UK release date for Watch OS 2.
Best new Apple Watch apps
To start with, Apple Watch owners will be getting Facebook Messenger support so they can see new messages right there on the Watch’s screen. You can also play back media messages.
Apple Watch is also getting iTranslate, so you never need to be left clueless in a foreign land. You can simply allow the Watch to listen to someone using the built-in mic and it will translate the most popular languages back into English – or vice versa.
Apple Watch is also getting a GoPro app, so you can use the Watch as a mini viewfinder to see exactly what you’re recording, and also trigger the camera remotely.
Apple also bigged up AirStrip, a medical app which allows doctors to check out a remote patient’s vitals such as heart rate.
Apple Watch new bands and designs for 2015/2016
Apple Watch will be available from today in two new colours: Gold and Rose Gold, both in the usual anodised aluminum finish. These new colours will be available in both original sizes and at the same price point here in the UK.
You can also pick up the Watch in a snazzy new Product Red finish, with a bright band complementing the usual stainless steel watch face.
Apple Watch OS 2 UK release date
At today’s launch, Apple also revealed that Watch OS 2 is coming to the UK on September 16th. It will be available as an over-the-air update. Apple Watch OS 2 packs lots of cool new features we’ve been longing for, including a new night mode and an easy way to see upcoming appointments.
