Our definitive list of the very best games for Windows phones, which you can download and play right now on your Lumia or Windows 10 phone/tablet.

If you’ve just picked up a new Windows phone, such as the new Lumia 950 or the bargainous Lumia 640, then good news: at long last there’s a decent selection of games available for Windows mobiles and tablets. Here’s our pick of the very best games for your Lumia phone or Windows tablet released in 2015 and 2016.

Hitman GO/Lara Croft GO

These clever turn-based puzzle game spin-offs from the Hitman and Tomb Raider franchises will test your smarts rather than your reaction skills, with challenging but compelling gameplay. Navigate across board game-style levels, dodging or disposing of enemies without getting caught. Both games are seriously addictive and definitely some of the best puzzlers available for Windows phones.

Leo’s Fortune

This brilliant Android/iOS platformer finally made it over to Windows phones in 2015 and we happily played through it all over again on our Lumias. Smart level design and brilliant presentation make for a truly great mobile game.

The Last Door

The Last Door is a haunting, sinister story that sticks with you long after it’s all over. Don’t be put off by the pixellated graphics; this adventure game will scare you senseless and keep you hooked with its overpowering atmosphere and surreal, terrifying moments.

Exonauts

This fast-paced reaction-based action game sees you plunging down a collapsing tunnel, dodging boulders and other falling debris while collecting power-ups to help you survive. Exonauts is very simple, but great fun and perfect for a quick pick-up-and-play session.

CSR Racing

Plough around dozens of insane tracks in single-player or multi-player mode, with a selection of almost 100 licensed cars to choose from. CSR Racing will definitely satisfy any racing junkie’s habit and is one of the very best racers of 2015 for Windows phones.

Beast Quest

Beast Quest is a massive action/adventure game that sees you battling your way across an open world, taking on foes in addictive real-time combat. With a typical RPG-style level-up system, devestating combos and plenty of challenges to keep you coming back for more, Beast Quest is one of our favourite Windows phone games of 2015.

Hook

Hook is a brilliant little puzzle game that sees you untangling a mess of cables in the correct order. That may not sound particularly exciting, but Hook really is an addictive Windows phone game that gets super-tough in no time at all.

Monument Valley

Pretty much everyone has at least heard of Monument Valley by now and this Rube Goldberg-inspired puzzle game is just as fresh with its latest release for Windows handsets. Twist and tweak the environment to get the princess to the exit of each level, but beware those dastardly crows who constantly manage to get in the way. Gorgeous presentation and smart design makes for a compelling game.

Crimsonland

If you’re after good, dumb fun, then look no further than Crimsonland. This zombie/monster shooter sees you clearing endless levels of deadly creatures, by blasting them with a variety of devestating weapons. The top-down action is relentless and the power ups are completely bonkers, adding to the insane fun.
