BlackBerry Bold 9780 officially official: RIM actually announces it

When we told you before that the BlackBerry Bold 9780 was official, it wasn’t officially official as we had no word from RIM itself on the matter. However, the Canadians have finally relented and confirmed the release and specification of the BlackBerry Bold 9780 to our pals accross the pond.

So what we’re looking at is a fairly minor update to the BlackBerry Bold 9700; in looks the handsets appear to be identical, but the 9780 will ship with BlackBerry OS 6 pre-installed. The new handset also offers double the internal memory (now 512MB) and a slightly better 5-megapixel camera.

Other than that, the new Bold 9780 is very similar to the Bold 9700 – there’s 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a microSD slot for expanding the handset’s storage.

Carriers around the world will be ranging the handset from as soon as November. In the UK, we’ll be wholly unsurprised to see it pop up on the T-Mobile site very soon.
