Blackberry’s new DTEK60 phone is the Priv successor we’ve been waiting for

Blackberry has finally launched the DTEK60, its third Android phone and a worthy successor to last year’s excellent Blackberry Priv. Here’s all you need to know about the Blackberry DTEK60, including its specs, best features, UK price and release date and a full comparison with the DTEK50 and Priv.

Blackberry and Android make such a compelling partnership, so it’s no wonder that the Blackberry Priv was one of our favourite phones of last year.

The Priv offered the best of both worlds: full customisation and a massive selection of apps, along with Blackberry’s brilliant BB10 design and features. All wrapped up in a good-looking and smart mobile, which packed impressive performance, a stunning Quad HD screen and a dependable camera.

The Blackberry DTEK50, which was launched earlier in 2016, was a bit of a let-down sadly. Blackberry was aiming for broader appeal by trimming the specs and slapping a more affordable asking price on the DTEK50. But the likes of the OnePlus 3 beat Blackberry’s blower in almost every area, including battery life, performance and camera tech.

Which is why we’re so thrilled that Blackberry has just launched the new DTEK60, the spiritual successor to the Priv flagship. This premium handset should really be called the Priv 2 as it once again packs a Quad HD screen (5.5-inches in size) along with the Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4GB of RAM.

There’s also a 21-megapixel rear camera with Phase Detection Autofocus, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, to snap your daily existence. But most exciting is the fingerprint sensor, something that we gravely missed on the Priv. Considering Blackberry’s focus on security, we’re surprised it’s taken them this long to get involved.

Blackberry also decided to ditch the Priv’s physical keyboard for this 2016 flagship, which is a smart move in our opinion. The virtual Blackberry keyboard is already one of the best around, and this cull means the DTEK60 is significantly slimmer and lighter.

Check out our Blackberry DTEK60 in a nutshell feature for a full specs list and a look at the new features. And we’ve also written a full DTEK60 vs DTEK50 vs Priv feature, so you can work out which Blackberry Android phone is best for you.

The Blackberry DTEK60 is being released in the UK in November 2016 and will cost you £475 SIM-free. You can pick it up on Carphone Warehouse’s iD network and also from Blackberry’s online store, ShopBlackberry.com.
