Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy have announced they will be slashing the price of the Blackberry Playbook tablet.
Until the end of the year you’ll be able to get hold of the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB Playbook for £150 less than their previous pricing. Prices start at £249 for 16GB (from £399), £329 for 32GB (from £479) and finally £409 for 64GB a reduction from saving £559.
This is a really impressive price for the Playbook and certainly makes it one of the most competitive tablets on the market. We’ve had a quick look online the 16GB Apple iPad starts at £399, the Motorola Xoom is around £329 and the Asus EeePad Transformer is around £349.
At the Blackberry DevCon Rim also announced the Blackberry BBX operating system, which will be be compatible with tablets and smartphones.
There RIM also announced the second version of the Playbooks operating system, which at the moment is only available for App Developers, but should be available in 2012.
One of the highlights of the new version of the operating system is Android app support. We’ve also spotted some footage of the Playbook sporting the new version of the operating system, while running Android apps and it looks pretty smooth.
We’ve long been fans of the Blackberry Playbook hardware and with Android apps on the horizon, the future of the Playbook looks pretty sweet. Lets hope Playbook owners aren’t waiting too long for the update.
