BlackBerry services now ‘operating normally’ after yesterday’s blackout

BlackBerry users out there can’t have failed to notice that some things weren’t quite working as they should yesterday.

BlackBerry services were crippled across parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, with many people not being able to access email, regarded as one of the strong points of the BlackBerry platform. The reason for the outage is still unknown, but RIM got in contact with us this morning to let us know that they’ve got things sorted.

“Yesterday, some BlackBerry subscribers in the EMEA region experienced delays with BlackBerry services,” said RIM in a statement. “The issue was resolved and services are operating normally. We apologize to those customers who were impacted for any inconvenience.”

Yesterday RIM announced that it was “working to resolve an issue currently impacting some BlackBerry subscribers in Europe Middle East and Africa. We’re investigating, and we apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused whilst this is resolved.”

According to Times of India, the outage affected users in the subcontinent as well, though the statement we were given didn’t mention this.

The service outage couldn’t have come at a worse time for RIM, which was proudly taking the wraps off of its NFC-driven Tag service at the GITEX event in Dubai.

Were you affected by yesterday’s service outage? Have things started working for you again or are you still hanging on your telephone? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
