Brother launches print’n’scan app for iPhone

Printer firm Brother has launched an innovative iPhone app that lets you wirelessly print photos from your iPhone or iPad, while also scanning photos and documents to them.

It’s called iPrint&Scan, and it’s free on the App Store, although it only works with Brother’s all-in-one printers that support wireless connectivity. You can print from your Photo Album or directly from the iPhone’s camera, while scanning takes place on the printer itself – you scan in a pic or document, and the file is then beamed to your device.

Brother says it’s working on versions of the app for Android handsets and other smartphones. “iPhone users have been waiting for an app like this for quite some time,” reckons the company’s sales and marketing director Phil Jones. “We’re really pleased to be at the forefront of innovative printing technology, providing businesses with the means to succeed.”

You can bet Brother’s rivals won’t be far behind with this kind of app though, given the increasing popularity of wireless-enabled printers.
