BT Phone Book opens up on Android phones, gives you access to thousands of numbers

The address book on your Android phone has just got a whole lot bigger. BT has just released its Phone Book app to the Market giving you quick access to the numbers of thousands of local and national businesses.

The BT Phone Book app, developed by Grapple Mobile, allows you to search for taxis, restaurants and venues around you or anywhere in the UK. Typing ‘Cinema’ into the search bar and then a city name into the bar below will bring up a number of cinema listings for that area. If you don’t specify a location and just hit search, the app uses your phone’s GPS to locate the nearest cinemas or whatever you searched for.

When you’ve found the one you want you can call the venue directly from your mobile. For future reference you can also save numbers directly to your address book from the app, either by long clicking on the number or tapping the ‘Add to Contacts’ button at the bottom. Directions and search results can be displayed in Google Maps if you want an idea of how to get to places.

We suppose you could always Google for information from your Android phone. However the BT Phone Book app boasts a streamlined design, works quickly and divides everything up into neat categories (Banks, Bars, Florists, Petrol Stations etc) so it’s easier to search for stuff at a glance. It’s about 1.90MB in size as well so it’s not going to take up a huge amount of space on your phone.

The BT Phone Book app is free to download from the Android Market now, with versions of the app for iPhone, BlackBerry and Nokia devices in the pipeline.
