Channel 4 is launching All 4 Games, a new mobile games studio based in Glasgow, to help home-grown talent showcase their time wasters.
With the help of Colin Macdonald, Realtime Worlds co-founder and producer of the original Grand Theft Auto, All 4 Games will develop its own in-house titles as well as shine a spotlight on other UK developers when it launches this summer.
Despite his Twitter bio stating that he ‘dislikes mini-games’, Macdonald said he hopes All 4 Games will give indie developers a platform to shout from.
“Channel 4 is renowned for working with growing creative companies and I’m delighted we’re able to throw even more of its weight behind the games industry,” Macdonald said. “With over 1.5 million apps for users to choose from now, discoverability has become the biggest problem facing mobile game developers so it’s exciting to be able to do even more to support them and promote their amazing work to a wider audience.”
Published and featured games will be showcased on the new-look All 4 website, with direct links to app stores.
Channel 4 says that it decision to encourage UK-based developers reflects its public service remit to support new creative talent. David Abraham, chief executive of Channel 4 added:
“Channel 4 has a successful record for commissioning critically acclaimed games and I’m pleased that with the launch of All 4 Games we are able to extend our support for this hugely important part of the creative sector and help showcase the work of smaller games developers.”
All 4 Games will launch later this Summer and will initially create four new jobs in Glasgow.
