Clever gizmo transforms your iPhone into a mini 3D theatre

You can’t swing a cat these days without hitting some 3D movie or game or sport, and while there are certainly 3D phones in the works, it’s currently a bit of a dimensionally-challenged pipe dream.

Enter the i3DG, a cute little contraption which uses mirrors to turn images and videos on your iPhone into a palm top 3D theatre.

The downside is that your image or video has to be split into three sections so that the mirrors can make use of the Pepper’s Ghost technique to make it appear three dimensional. The 150-year-old method was first used in theatre and magic tricks to make things seem to appear and disappear. We aren’t magicians so please don’t ask us how it works.

As the inventors’ website suggests, if you have the skills then you could put this to good use in an impressive, glassesless 3D iPhone app. For now, we’ll just have to make do with the video below. [via Design Boom]
