Dark Knight Rises app launches exclusively to Nokia Lumia phones

The Dark Knight Rises is set to be the third and final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and excitement has been mounting for its release in just over two weeks time. With the introduction of the Nokia Lumia 800, the company sought a partnership with Warner Bros. to garner their new smartphone with a little bit of movie magic. The Lumia 800: Batman Edition arrived in time for the first TDKR trailer and its successor, the Lumia 900 more recently underwent the same treatment, just a month from the film’s release.

In addition to the Lumia 900: Batman Edition handset, its box art featured a unique Windows Phone app; a movie-tie in application found only on the limited run of devices (each costing £599 a piece). The app allows users access to unique wallpapers, all trailers released for the film and a specialised location-based game, powered by Foursquare.

The good news, is this formerly super-exclusive app has now made its way to a wider audience, with any Nokia Lumia owners now able to pick the application up for free, simply by checking out the ‘Nokia Collection’ section in Windows Phone Marketplace.

The app features a dark monochrome UI which alongside the trailers, wallpapers and games, offers in-depth information about cast, crew and fan reception, provides you with a countdown time to the film’s launch and offers a GPS-based ‘bat-locator’ showing the nearest cinema to your device slated to show the film.

For your enjoyment, the team at NokNok took their TDKR Lumia 900 and produced a video showing how to correctly use the app, available now on the Windows Phone Marketplace.
