eBay has announced that its eBay for BlackBerry app is now available in more countries around the world, following its debut earlier this year in the US and Canada. You can now download it from RIM’s BlackBerry App World in the UK, Spain, Australia, France, Germany and Italy.
If you use the online auction site and own a capable BlackBerry smartphone – anything running OS 4.5 and upwards – you MUST download it. It’s like digital crack for eBay addicts. The app lets you search and bid for items, and check your buying and selling activity. However, the big thing is the way it ties into the BlackBerry’s native features.
So, you can get push notifications to your inbox when you’ve won an item or been outbid, but also when an item that you’re watching is about to end. Clicking on the link in the notification takes you straight to the app – which as eBay experts will realise, could be crucial in the closing minutes and seconds of a hotly-fought bidding war.
The app also ties into your BlackBerry calendar, so you can set reminders for when items are ending. And you can actually buy items from the app using your PayPal account too. RIM reckons this is a Super App, but now us Brits (and Aussies, French, Germans etc) get to experience it firsthand. Here’s a demo:
