Egypt protesters get speak-to-tweet service

Thanks to a combination of efforts from Google, Twitter and SayNow, protesters in Egypt are able to have voicemails transformed into tweets.

The service should allow those within Egypt to quickly and easily update their Twitter feeds via voice connection. All you need to do is dial either +16504194196, +390662207294 or +97316199855 and leave a message. A tweet will then be created carrying the hashtag #egypt and sent via @speak2tweet.

If you would rather listen to the original messages themselves simply call the above numbers of click on links posted @speak2tweet.

A post on the official Google blog explains more about why the service was set up.
“ Like many people we’ve been glued to the news unfolding in Egypt and thinking of what we could do to help people on the ground. Over the weekend we came up with the idea of a speak-to-tweet service—the ability for anyone to tweet using just a voice connection.”

Ujiwal Singh, CoFounder of SayNow and AbdelKarim Mardini, Google’s Middle East & North Africa Product Manager explained in the post that they “hope that this will go some way to helping people in Egypt stay connected at this very difficult time. Our thoughts are with everyone there.”
