Facebook launched its new Facebook Places location service in the US last month. Ever since, us Brits have had to look on enviously as Americans gleefully checked in at their local haunts with friends. No more.
Facebook just put the feature live in the UK too, via its iPhone app. If you tap on the Facebook Places icon now, rather than being told it’s not available here, you can see a list of friends who’ve been checking in, and check in yourself at local venues and businesses.
Is it a Foursquare-killer? Debate has been raging on the issue, as it has about the privacy aspects of being able to check your friends into locations without asking them. However, on both counts, at least we now get to make up our own minds, first-hand.
