The Android edition of FIFA 12, announced back in August, hits the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play today and will be free and exclusive to the ‘PSP Phone’ until February 2012.
FIFA 12 is fully Xperia Play optimised, meaning that its controls have been mapped specifically for the trademark slide-out gamepad of the Xperia Play.
As well as this Xperia Play-tailored version, EA Mobile will be bringing FIFA 12 to the other star players in Sony Ericsson’s Xperia 2011 squad. Both the Xperia Arc S and the original Xperia Arc get to play ball, as do the Xperia Ray, Xperia Neo and the Xperia Pro.
“Our vision is to create the most authentic FIFA experience that fosters one of the largest football communities on the planet,” said Glenn Roland, VP, EA Interactive, New Platforms and OEM. “By introducing FIFA to Xperia devices we’re able to give fans yet another compelling opportunity to play no matter where they are, anytime, anywhere.”
Sadly, there’s no word on when FIFA 12 will be hitting these other phones yet – we’ve asked Sony Ericsson and we’re waiting to hear back.
In the meantime, Xperia Play owners will be able to snap up FIFA 12 via the Games widget on the phone. FIFA 12 naturally features fully updated team information (no ‘London FC’ business here) as well as rolling commentary. Sadly, there’s no indication of a chap in a tracksuit coming on at half time with a tray of oranges.
Sony Ericsson has gone football crazy recently, in a bid to promote the Xperia Play. As well as blagging long-time FIFA rival Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 on the Xperia Play, Sony Ericsson recently roped in Kasabian’s Tom Meighan and England/Aston Villa’s Darren Bent for a bit of five-a-side action.
