FluidFX gives you a special effects lab on your iPad

I don’t know about you, but what’s been missing from my photos all these years is a hefty portion of realistic special effects. Yes, I want to melt the faces of my nearest and dearest. I want to see what it would look like if I put my bookshelves in a blender. I want to add some fire and brimstone to those birthday parties and drunken nights out.

At last, I can do so as realistically as Hollywood and very much on the cheap. FluidFX is an effects app from the Oscar-winning effects team behind Autodesk Maya, software used to create effects in all the big hitters, from Avatar to Inception and Titanic.

There’s a dazzling array of dials at your disposal to fine tune the effects, which range from different types of smoke and fire to gravity-influenced photo-warping – here’s what I’d look like if you saw me on a Waltzer with a teapot, for example:

Really you’ll get a better feel for FluidFX from giving it a go – or watching the video below. You can save your custom settings to the app and re-use them, and there’s also video-out capability. All for just £1.19 – total bargain.
