A treat turned up this morning at the Recombu Towers in the form of a preview model of a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, complete with fully functioning PlayStation pocket app.
A quick tap on the Crash Bandicoot icon sitting on the home screen and the game started up. Immediate nostalgia factor ten struck when the retro PS one logo appeared, followed by the quirky ‘Bandicoot music.
A few hours of play with the phone reveal that the slide-out controller is very very good. So good in fact that we couldn’t really imagine going back to touch screen gaming on our phones.
The handset is quick and Android runs much smoother than on any other Xperia phone we are yet to play with. Crash Bandicoot looked great and it was awesome to be able to switch instantaneously between game and phone, without losing our state of play.
