Google+ adds Angry Birds, moves into gaming

Mark Zuckerberg is running out of toes for Google to step on, follwing the big G’s announcement of a new games page on its social networking site Google+. The page launched with sixteen games for users to try out, including Zynga Poker, Sudoku, Bejeweled and that feathery heavyweight of the mobile gaming world, Angry Birds.

Google unveiled the new games page on the Google Blog yesterday, really hammering the social aspect of the service: “sharing is about more than just conversations” wrote Google’s Vic Gundotra. “The experiences we have together are just as important to our relationships. We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life.” Now if only they could make Sudoku more fun than in real life, they might really have Facebook on the ropes.

Google+ users can get stuck in to the games on offer right now by clicking the ‘games’ button at the top of their stream, from where they’ll be able to play, send and receive invitations to start social games and see a list of games that their friends have played recently. According to the blog, more games are also on the way, with Google also launching a new developer blog for studios wanting to build titles especially for Google+. Is blight coming to Farmville? Let us know what you make of the new games page on Facebook or our Twitter feed.
