Google Maps adds London Underground and buses to mobile apps and web

Google Maps has added data on London public transport to its Google Maps apps and website, across iOS, Android and BlackBerry.

Including the London Underground and buses, you can use the standard directions feature to plot a route home using the tube or bus network. It’ll also give you an estimate of how long it’ll take, of course.

Google Maps app bases its recommendations on distance, but typically offers several different route- great if you know there’s delays on certain lines. But there is good news for Android users; use Google’s Transit Navigation app (still in beta testing) and you’ll get alerts when it’s time to get off the bus or train, or time to transfer. Pretty clever stuff.

It may not have the intuition of BusMapper, but this Google Maps upgrade does offer a combination of tube and bus networks – ideal for getting across London, whether you live here or are just visiting.
