It’s only been two months since Google acquired social mapping company Waze for $1.1 billion, but the search giant is already implementing features into its own services. The Next Web reports that Google Maps for iOS and Android will now include real time traffic incident notifications that are powered by Waze.
So, any traffic incidents, accidents, or road closures reported using Waze will now appear in Google Maps too. And any such incidents will show up in real time, allowing Google Maps to alert you to the problem while offering up alternative routes. Google says that the new feature will be available in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Switzerland, the UK, and the United States.
The Waze app has also been updated to add search results from Google, so users can easily find businesses or points of interest alongside the app’s other search engines. The Waze Map Editor can now tap into Google Street View as well, allowing Waze members to update their maps, correct any problems, or fill in any blanks that may crop up on their travels.
