Many anticipate that the Google Nexus tablet could make its first appearance at Google I/O, the company’s developer conference scheduled to take place later this week at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, but ahead of the event more specifications have appeared online.
The team at Gizmodo Australia saw a training document confirming (and reaffirming) suspected facts about the upcoming tab, supposedly called Google Nexus 7 and manufactured by Asus.
As we’ve already heard, the Google Nexus tab is entering the market as a low-cost, high-power tablet, gunning for the likes of Amazon’s Kindle Fire. With a price tag around $149 (£95) and $249 (£160) for 8GB and 16GB versions, it’s exciting to think that this will be a device will offer a 1.3GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor, a WXGA 1280×800 7-inch IPS display, 1GB of RAM, a 12-core GPU, Android Beam, NFC, Google Wallet functionality (at least in the US).
The big news surrounding the Nexus tablet is that it will also be the first new Android device to offer a taste of the latest iteration of the OS; Android Jelly Bean, which is expected to be classified as 4.1 as opposed to 5.0 (the documentation doesn’t make mention of a version number).
If we follow recent clues the official release of the Nexus tablet may be around the 25th of October this year and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the first phone to taste Android Jelly Bean alongside its new tablet counterpart.
