Google Nexus Prime full specs revealed

Google’s phones are a big deal. When the big G shifts its focus off of supplying its Android OS to anyone and everyone who wants to make a phone or tablet with a shot at the Apple smartphone crown, and onto its own-brand devices, the tech world sits up and takes notice. Especially as its last two attempts at a true Google phone – the Nexus One and the Nexus S – have missed the mark of smartphone greatness by just inches, scuppered by things like lack of stock and irritating early software bugs.

So you can imagine our excitement at the news that the spec sheet for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, code-named the “Nexus Prime”, has been leaked online. And we mean the whole shebang, not just a couple of little details. BGR’s trusted source has the scoop and gave us the rundown.

At the launch next Tuesday, we can reportedly expect a 4.65-inch touchscreen, a 9mm thick body, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and the all-new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The only fly in the ointment? A 5MP camera. They’re solid specs, if not totally ground-breaking, so the impetus is on Google and Ice Cream Sandwich to pull it all together into one tight package.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is set to be revealed at a special Google event on Tuesday 11th October, at which we’re hoping to snag some solid details on a UK release date and pricing. In the mean time, take a look at our Google Nexus Prime feature for absolutely everything we know about the handset.

Update: We spoke to sources at Vodafone regarding availability of the Google Nexus Prime/Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the UK and they declined to comment.

Given that Vodafone’s track record for snapping up Nexus phones we’d be surprised if the red network didn’t get involved with the latest instalment at some point. We will of course keep you updated on availability of the next Nexus phone, whatever it ends up being officially called.
