Time has created a calculator that shows how many days of your life have been wasted on Facebook.
157 days. That’s how much time this writer has wasted on Facebook since she first signed up on December 1st 2008. To be precise, it’s actually 157 days and 23 minutes — an eye-watering number on first glance, racked up as a result of spending roughly two hours on Facebook every day for 5 years.
Other members of our team, who shall remain almost nameless, have spent far longer liking, posting and poking their lives away. One Recombu staffer has spent a whopping 495 days, 14 hours and 5 minutes on Facebook since he signed up on January 30th 2007. His excuse: It was all work-related research and so on and so forth. Hmm.
So how does the calculator work? Well, Time hasn’t said exactly, but its app forms a rough guestimate by asking how long you think you spend on Facebook every day before analysing the timestamps on every single post in your feed until it reaches the earliest one. You can find the calculator here.
So if you can bear it, give Time’s calculator a go and then post a status about it on Facebook afterwards, of course.
