If you’re a proud owner of an HTC One or Desire Eye smartphone then get ready to charge it up to 40 percent quicker, with the impending launch of HTC’s Rapid Charger 2.0.
HTC’s new charger looks like your bog-standard wall charger (the below shot is obviously an American model but we’d be shocked not to see a UK version emerge too). However, the Rapid Charger 2.0, which works with the One (M8), One E8, One Remix and Desire EYE, can significantly speed up the time needed to fully power your HTC mobile.
Other devices will likely benefit from the Rapid Charge 2.0 tech in the near future, and not just HTC ones. We’re already seeing plenty of phones emerging with the ability to half-charge in just thirty minutes, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and with improved charging tech thrown in we might soon get phones that can power up in the time it takes you to boil the kettle.
Rapid Charge 2.0 uses Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 technology, which can be found in many other devices that boast Snapdragon 400, 600 and 800 series chipsets. One such device is Motorola’s new DROID Turbo, which is able to make use of Motorola’s Turbo Charge feature to grab a much healthier battery boost (up to eight hours more life) in just 15 minutes, leading us to wonder what proprietary issues could be behind HTC’s projections, which seem lacklustre in comparison.
The Rapid Charger 2.0 isn’t available to order quite yet, nor has a price been confirmed, but we’re banking on it being quite soon, as it has already been added to HTC’s website.
