HTC and Beats, the company responsible for the rap-tastic Beats By Dr. Dre headphones, have teamed up to promise “a superior mobile audio experience” on the next generation of HTC mobile handsets.
“The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smart phone industry and define the future,” says Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Beats By Dr. Dre. “this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution; and reengineer how sound is delivered so that the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended.”
Speaking for the other side of the partnership, HTC said that working with Beats would not only let them to offer top-notch sound on its mobile devices, but would also help to push HTC further into the youth market.
All well and good, but details on the nuts and bolts of the new tech are thin on the ground – we don’t even know yet if the technology is going to be integrated into HTC’s smartphones themselves, or whether this arrangement just means an upgrade to HTC’s bundled earphones (or, hope against hope, both). We’ll find out for certain just what the doctor has prescribed us when the first HTC and Beats handsets launch in the Autumn.
