HTC Hero: And then a hero comes along

Thank you HTC. Most of the mobile phone launches we go to are anticlimactic but the recent launch of the HTC Hero was awesome. It started like any other launch but by the end of it we were salivating like ravenous dogs in front of a bowl of Pedigree Chum. Aside from playing around with possibly the best Android phone yet we also had a quick chat with HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou. We were intrigued to hear that HTC has the largest Android dev team outside of Google. We can’t wait to see what it comes up with next.

The HTC Hero’s chin may not please everyone but we like the fact that it distinguishes it from all the other touchscreen phones.

On the back of the HTC Hero there’s a 5-megapixel camera but as you can see there’s no LED photo light or flash.

Hallelujah, there it is, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. No more adapters and no more rubbish proprietary headphones.

Last but not least, a mini USB charging and data socket, which is great considering most of us have mini USB cables about — so you won’t need to cough up for an expensive charger if you lose the Hero’s.
