And here we see, in its natural habitat – the palm of a mobile phone user – the magnificent HTC Leo, also rumoured to be the HTC Touch 3. The forthcoming HTC Leo has apparently been spotted in the wild by techblog.gr (via Engadget) and it looks to be a bit of a beast. It’s a slim phone but it boasts a super-wide screen, reminding us a bit of the Toshiba TG01.
Rumours suggest that the Leo’s touchscreen measures a whopping 4.3-inches across, beating the TG01 by a couple of decimal places — a smart phone record perhaps. The HTC Leo will run on Windows Mobile 6.5, incorporating HTC’s own TouchFlo 3D interface instead of the new Windows Mobile hexagonal grid interface.
An LED-flash assisted camera appears to be present, although it’s unknown how many megapixels it boasts. HTC declined to comment on speculation, but if the Leo is indeed an update of the Touch 2, then we can expect a 3.2-megapixel camera along with 3G capabilities and a 3.5mm audio jack at the very least.
The HTC Leo looks like it means business but as we saw with the TG01, great hardware doesn’t count if your phone is hobbled by a slow OS. Whether or not the Leo turns out to be a killer or a kitten is down to whether Windows Mobile 6.5 can deliver the goods.
