The HTC One X is a ‘pioneer device’ from the perspective of hardware. NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor had already made it to Android tablets by the end of 2011 (such as the Asus Transformer Prime), but the One X was the first smartphone to utilise it, bursting into the market in 2012 as the most powerful smartphone on the scene.
Despite the credentials the hardware has had some issues, as word of WiFi stability issues has spread amongst One X users, which have now been confirmed as a recognised fault by HTC.
Addressed on a forum page within XDA Developers (the site with which the fault was initially discussed at length), an official HTC spokesperson interjected to try and establish the root of the problem. Following this, HTC have released an official statement which was picked up by AndroidCentral, identifying the fault, tying it to a manufacturing/hardware oversight which will in future units, be modified and fixed.
“After investigating isolated reports of WiFi connectivity issues in the HTC One X, we have identified a fix that strengthens the area of the phone around the WiFi antennae connection points. While many customers have not experienced any problems with signal strength, we have taken immediate steps to implement a solution in our production process to prevent this issue from happening in the future. HTC is committed to making sure every customer has a great experience and we apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused while we conducted a thorough investigation.“
Although initial thoughts lead us to believe that the issue lies with European HTC One X devices, it’s unclear if it is in fact an international issue and this is something we’ve asked HTC to confirm.
