Huawei Ascend D2 confirmed: water resistant and two-day battery

At CES Huawei has officially confirmed the Huawei Ascend D2, a water and dust resistant smartphone, with a 5-inch screen and two-day battery.

CEO Richard Yu took to the stage at CES to finally reveal details of the Ascend D2 which replaces the Huawei Ascend D1 (which never officially made it to the UK) in the company’s line-up.

Available in in pure white or crystal blue the Ascend D2 is made from stainless steel that takes 116 individual manufacturing processes to create and Huawei claims uses “more advanced manufacturing technology than the iPhone.”  Surprisingly the phone is also water and dust resistant to IPX 5/4, something we’ve not seen before in a flagship.

The Huawei Ascend D2 includes an edge-to-edge 5-inch full HD screen 443ppi (pixels per inch), making it sharper than the iPhone 5 and Huawei even cheekily calls it ‘Super Retina.’ Big screens need large batteries and the Ascend D2 is no exception, Huawei claims the the 3000mAh battery should last around two days, while fast-charging technology means it charges 30 per cent faster than other smartphones.

On the back there’s a 13-megapixel camera with a bright f2.2 lens HDR mode, high ISO sensitivity levels and manual colour temperature adjustment feature, all interesting features, but perhaps not ones the everyday consumer will use.

Find out more about the phone below and check out our Huawei Ascend D2 hands-on.
