Inception movie gets an audio ‘dream machine’ app for iPhone

As critically acclaimed movies go, they didn’t come much more praised than Inception this year. But now the film has got its own spin-off iPhone app, which is equally as creative. And, indeed, arty.

The app is described as “a dream machine that transforms the world around you into a dreamworld” using “augmented sound to induce dreams through the headset of your iPhone and iPod touch. It will change your perception of reality”.

Who needs drugs, eh? Don’t answer that.

The app takes input from the real world around you via your iPhone’s mic – footsteps, running water, speech, whatever ambient noise there is at the time. It then blends that with music from the Inception soundtrack, with the idea being that you’ll get different results – or “realtime musical experiences” – every time you use it.

Sounds familiar? The app uses technology originally developed for the RjDj app, which we’re big fans of. Hopefully the Inception tie-in will help it get a bigger audience.
