iPhone 4: O2 announces ‘smartphone tariffs’

After announcing its early upgrade offer yesterday, O2 has now bitten the bullet and announced its tariffs for new and existing customers who are planning to invest in an iPhone 4.

Broadly naming these ‘Smartphone tariffs’, the new deals are not solely applicable to the iPhone and have more restrictions on data than previous ‘unlimited’ iterations. There are options for 12 month Simplicity deals (SIM-only), and 18- and 24-month contract deals (no word on handset pricing/subsidies yet though).

Although deals come with 500MB, 750MB or 1GB of data, you’ll also be able to purchase monthly bolt-ons – 500MB additional data for £5 and an additional 1GB for £10.

O2 doesn’t reckon these new limited deals will inconvenience many of its customers; the press release claims that the 500MB bundle provides at least 2.5x the average O2 customer’s current use.
