iPhone app scans and reads music: plays in real-time

Gakufu Camera, or Musicsheet camera, combines your smartphone’s processor and speaker with teh camera, allowing your iPhone to scan – then play- sheet music.

Made in collaboration with piano manufacturer Kawai, the app is currently only available in Japan, but with English options, it’s likely that we’ll see it in our local app store soon.

We’ve embedded a video below to explain what else the app can do. In short; a fair bit.

You can get the phone to play each individual note as you touch them, or slide your finger across the score, and the phone will play that selection. You can also transpose the score and adjust the tempo and tuning even. It’s a pretty substantial package.

The app is currently priced at 350 YEN.
