Brit-based Kazam planning seven smartphones

If you think nothing of any note is made in Britain anymore brace to have your lack of faith in the UK slapped sideways. This is Kazam – a smartphone manufacturer you’ve never heard of that stands on the cusp of launching no fewer than seven all-new handsets onto the market just in time for Christmas. And, yes, shameless cynic, it’s British!

Kazam's currently unveiled sextet of smartness

Kazam was founded by Michael Coombes and James Atkins, two former HTC UK executives, in June of this year. Yet despite such a short existence the plucky newbie is already preparing to go head-to-head with the likes of Apple, Samsung and former-paymaster HTC in the run up to Jesus-Day, offering its septet of Android-run smartphones as a fresh alternative.

Kicking off with two ranges, Thunder and Trooper, the former features two models, the Q4.5 which comes packing a quad-core MT6582M processor, Mali 400MP2 graphics processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch 854×480-pixel touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera, whilst specs of the second Thunder device, the Q5.0, are yet to be announced.

On the Trooper side, the entry level X3.5 model comes with a dual-core MT6572M processor and 512MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch 320×480-resolution touchscreen, 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera, the X4.0 has a four-inch 480×800-resolution screen and 5-megapixel snapper, while the X4.5, X5.0 and X5.5 all feature 854×480-resolution screens and 5-megapixel rear cameras, but with screen sizes that reflect their names.

Both ranges will be especially user-friendly, benefitting from dual-SIMs, SD card memory expansion and removable batteries, and also come with a whole year’s screen replacement policy for the butterfingered and even a unique remote repair facility called Kazam Rescue.
