Kobo Aura HD ereader boasts a 6.8-inch high-resolution display

Looking for an ereader with an absurdly high resolution for the absolutely crispest text? Then Kobo has exactly what you need. The company has announced the Aura HD, an e-reader with a 6.8-inch touchscreen and a resolution of 1440×1080. Not content with just a high resolution, Kobo has also added front lighting to the screen, letting anyone read in the dark or in an area without ambient light.

Other specs for the Kobo Aura HD include a 1Ghz processor, 4GB of internal storage, and expandable storage up to 32GB. The tablet will only be available in a Wi-Fi variant, however: there are apparently no plans for a 3G enabled version. Battery life is rated at up to two months, and the ereader will be available in black, white, and brown.

The price certainly isn’t bad either: Kobo will be making the Aura HD available for £139.99. That’s more expensive than Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite, which starts at £109. The difference in available titles may be a dealbreaker too, but you are getting a larger device with a higher resolution display.

if the Aura HD does take your fancy, then you’ll be able to pre-order one starting today at WHSmith. You won’t have to wait long for the reader to ship either, with the current release date pegged for April 25th.
