Lenovo K91: world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich TV makes its debut

Andoid 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is starting to appear tablets and mobile phones, but now it’s also made its way onto a television set, in the form of the Lenovo K91 Smart TV.

The Lenovo K91 is world’s first television to run ICS. This LCD television is a huge 55-inches, with a full HD resolution of 1920×1080, 3D and IPS (in-plane switching) technology and is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8060 processor.

Lenovo describes the interface as the ‘Sandwich UI,’ which is split into three areas. Video On Demand includes on-demand high definition content tailored to the users viewing history. Internet applications include apps and games from the Android Market and Lenovo Store. And finally there are traditional television shows.

Elsewhere a 5-megapixel camera enables users to turn on the K91 using ICS’s Face Unlock feature, providing security and parental controls. Voice controls with language processing and speech recognition let users control the remove by voice. Finally Cloud support is for sharing music and video files between the television and tablets, smartphones and PCs.

The Lenovo K91 certainly looks interesting, we’ll have to see how it differs from LG’s Google TV,  which we should hear more about later.  There’s no news yet on pricing or when the Lenovo K91 will be coming to the UK; it’s currently set for launch in China and will be available in the rest of the world later.
