LG LU6200 snapped: 4.5-inch 720p HD screen, ready for Ice Cream Sandwich

We’ve not heard much from LG in a while, with the rumour mills recently being dominated by the likes of HTC and Nokia for new phones. However the LG LU6200 looks pretty interesting. Snapped in Korea by Money Today, the LU6200 as a name doesn’t roll off the tongue that well.

But what will set your tongue a-wagging is its screen, rumoured to be a 4.5-incher with a display res of 720p (1280 x 720). What’s more, that monster screen is said to feature IPS (In Plane Switching) technology, the same tech that gives the iPhone 4’s screen such great viewing angles and clarity.

Reportedly powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8660 chip and sporting an 8-megapixel main camera (1.3-megapixels up front), the LU6200 will ship running on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread and will be ready for Ice Cream Sandwich when it launches.

Interestingly, it looks like LG has axed the Search button from the bottom here, whereas in the past its usually stuck with the standard Android four.

Other rumoured spec includes a meaty 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

As you can see from the back shot of the phone, there’s an LTE logo; Pocket Droid is saying that it’s going to launch in Korea as the LG Optimus LTE. Chances are it’ll be called something like the Optimus 4G is it makes it to the US, and who knows what (Optimus HD? Optimus 720?) if it ever sees the light of day in Europe. If it does come out over here, that checkered weave back cover would have to go as well.

We’ve spoken to LG about the availability of the LU6200 and are waiting to hear back.
